PLEASE NOTE
The information on the BambooZoo site is as much as 10 years old and in the hobby much has been learned. Though, I believe there is merit in keeping the site open. There are many controversial issues presented in these pages. Please view BambooZoo as a starting point in your research.
These beings are as complicated as we are and deserve more than a basic 5 paragraph care sheet to maintain their health and well being.
My passion has changed. This is where I am today. Change the World.
BRUNO AND BABY'S TORTOISE PEN
I give them a spring mix that I buy in the supermarket. I also supplement that with cuttings from the hibiscus, flowers from the chives, clovers & dandelion greens I find around the house, a few leaves from the basil, cilantro, sometimes some grape leaves.
Baby really loves the cuttings I bring in and will eat everything in sight. Bruno sometimes will, but not always.
They go out with me under my supervision. The garden area is just starting to grow nicely, but I still have to find some wood stakes for the snap peas.
I’m really jumping the gun here you might want to see what the area looked like when I started.
Day 2:
I finally got the nasturtium planted in two long planter box's and placed into the pen.
I still have to put up the snap pea fence and plant the pea plants. We've been having a lot of rain lately so planting is pushed back until the rain stops. Just when the ground dries a bit, it starts raining again.
Fall will see the snap pea fence coming down and a grape vine put in it's place for the next spring/summer.
I had Baby Tatiana's and Bruno out yesterday while I started cutting the fence for the snap peas. Baby looked around a bit and made a bee line for the tall grass at the other end. Bruno was next when I got him out, but he didn't waste time with running toward the other end either. They both like that one end with the tall grass. Bruno sniffed at baby and then tried to burrow himself into the grass and dirt. Baby wasn't amused with his attention and left the area to hide behind the planters. Baby still doesn't like Bruno very much, I guess.
Got the Fence up for the snap peas and everything is planted. Was planning to take some photos of the torts in their new enclosure but it's a little too cool out for them today.
I watch my reptiles closely and talk to them all the time.
Baby Tatiana is well fed as well as Bruno, both are happy and went to go take a nap.
I do have a couple of photos of the finished pen area. I still want to put some spearmint in though.
Those rocks on the drip line are supposed to be of dual purpose. One to disperse water better and not dig a hole in that area and two to give another challenge for the tort's to climb around on.
Still have the finishing touch’s to do, like finish the rock drip line and cultivate in back of the rocks where the nasturtiums are.
With all the rain we’ve been having here Baby & Bruno had a nice view today
My sincerest gratitude for sharing with us, Bob. Bob and his wife are very open to sharing what equipment he uses and what works in his home. We are new acquaintences but his style impresses me. I think you will find his site cozy and comfortable. Look around for me there! Pat
