ALTERNATE EYECAP REMOVAL

WRITTEN BY:  Christian Castille

Rubbing or using cotton wool on the eye lens can damage them and cause scratches...If it is repeated it can cause blindness or palpebral membrane (snake eye lens) damage,  due to it being very susceptable to infection.  The safest and most effective way of removing them is to use some sort of carbomer liquid gel, such as Viscotears from the chemist, pharmacy or sometimes on the aisles in discount stores.  It uses a waterbased lubricating film across the palpenral membrane which allows the reptile or snake in this case, to have the skin simply fall off.

You might need to repeat this 2-3 times, and you can incorporate other methods as well to help but I have found this works brilliantly.

So I will show you how I use this method.

Firstly get your self a snake with retained eye caps.

Skin caught in the eye will have the same effect.

Now have your Tiscotears gel ready.

Add a large blop over the eye(s) and place the snake in a tub for 5 minutes.

After this period of time, add a blob of the gel onto a cotton wool bud....It is vital that you dont use the cotton wool bud as a tool to pull the skin off.  You are simply using it as a way of manipulating the gel on the bud to make contact with the gel on the eye lens

Five hours later and the photo speaks for itself.
