A REHYDRATION METHOD
Though this article uses the example of a small snake, the method can also be used for lizards and amphibians.
From this condition to the photo on the right in 22 hours.
I get asked easily 30+ times a week about my rehydration method that I (and other keepers) use.
I understand I've posted many times publicly about it but they are very easy to find those threads so I am doing a topic on it. I am also doing a topic on this as i was unable to contact a member on the forum over the last 3 days who had a dehydrated boa and they were too scared to ask the forum for help incase they were flamed for allowing the snake to get in this state (which was actually a result of the wrong wormer being used which caused diarrhea) and as I couldn't answer them. The snake sadly died. Hopefully this wont be able to happen now as this thread is up
Ok so lets cut the crap...powerade is a human engergy drink, yes....no it's not harmful to your snake....yes it can be used with most animals (unless diabetic or have an extremely weak heart). The only snakes I DON'T recommend it with are Indigo snakes or Calabaria boas.
Powerade contains vitamins B3,B6 and B12. These play a huge role in rehydration of the body and energy metabolism by replenishing the body with electrolytes.
These sorts of oral rehydration therapies, electrolyte drinks contain sodium and potassium salts replenish the body's water and electrolyte levels after dehydration caused by exercise, diaphoresis, diarrhea, vomiting, intoxication or starvation.
A simple electrolyte drink can be home-made by using the correct proportions of water, sugar, salt, salt substitute for potassium, and baking soda. However, effective electrolyte replacements should include all electrolytes required by the body, including sodium chloride, potassium, magnesium, and calcium that can be either obtained in a sports drink or a solid electrolyte capsule.
Ok now thats sorted out. Lets explain how it can be used and what for
-dehydration
-sloopy kacks
-simulating males to breed
-kick start snakes feeding
-ill snakes
-snakes recently come out of operations
-acclimatising wild caught snakes
-recently laid/birthed females
Ok now lets show you the magic at work.
.
Now take one dehydrated viperine snake.

Now take one dehydrated viperine snake.
Please notice the tenting. Dehydrated snakes skin tents to a peek. Many think this is starvation but it certainly isn't at all.
Ok so now you need a empty rub/tub.
Fill it with luke warm water....NOT too deep for the body ratio of the snake.
Now for rehydrating a badly dehydrated snake you want around 75% powerade added in there. Depending on how bad it is and if its not due to dehydration.
Now you should have your bath ready.
Now add your snake and leave it in there while being monitored for 10 mins....take out and redo it 90 minutes later.
After this time add the snake into a damp environment for roughly 12 hours (provided the snake doesnt have any wounds).

THEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
22 hours later.....bang...and the dehydration is gone.
