MY VIVARIUMS
***notes on cohabitation........please read
There are many viable reasons to avoid mixing species. The challenges to doing so are unending. To accomplish it these are what is necessary in my home. I am home 24/7. I spend less than 5 hours per week on average away from here. All of the environments are in my immediate vicinity and I spend a huge amount of time watching the going's on in each. I keep at least 2 tanks in spare for someone not looking too well......or to quickly pop one into if I become aware of a problem. If I don't see a particular lizard for a day or two I will dive in and go looking. I know even the hideouts for the tree frogs. I have made errors along the way. Dropped tails, I rescued a green anole from the Cuban's mouth. The Cuban had a new home 15 minutes later. I have more trouble with housing 2 of the same species together than some of the differing ones. If you are not able to be home all the time, if you dont have the ability to rehome immediately, if you are not exceptionally attentive, if you dont know each of your lizards intimately, you may fail. One more thing..........never let anyone go hungry!
I DO NOT BREED. THESE CO-HABITATION SETTINGS DO NOT WORK WELL FOR BREEDING. IT IS A DOG EAT DOG KINDA WORLD AND EGGS ARE A NATURAL PROTEIN.
On the positive side, I believe these kinds of environments allow the animal to have choice, exercise, stimulation, develop foraging and survival skills, socialization, and when set up well, less maintenance and more enjoyment. Living in a cage for 10 years is no one's picnic and small minds, can be kept amused!
My spaces are small which strengthens the argument that it can be accomplished. But I will also mention that a small environment can affect the size of your animal. And please remember that young lizards need to be fed daily.

We encourage participation here. Our goal is to give people examples of successful keeping and the tools and equipment being used to maintain a healthy reptile. We would love to here from you. capturemymind1@aol.com
