CRESTED GECKO
Cresteds to be featured soon! Watch for developments.
Crested geckos are ectotherms meaning they require outside heat to stay alive. The heat will help them breath, digest food, and keep their bodies running. Luckily heating for these guys is not a problem. They are fairly flexible when it comes to temperature.
A crested gecko will thrive at room temperature. Never let their cage go over 80F for more than a half an hour. Overheating will kill them very quickly. If you find that too much heat is a problem, mist the cage with cool water and place ice cubes on the screen top. At night the temperatures can go down to 65F or stay room temperature.
If you live in a cold climate and 72-76F is hard to maintain then a low wattage bulb can be used. This should be placed on either side of the tank so they can thermoregulate if needed.
Crested geckos are mainly nocturnal so UVB lighting is not needed. During the day they will hide in foliage and hunt at night. Heating requirements for crested geckos are easy to meet, and you should not ever have to use heating devices that reach above 80F.
