I personally don't feed any rodents but would appreciate any input on the involvement and efforts needed to raise them. I currently am raising mealworms and compost worms for my buddies. With a goal of raising my own crickets this summer. I also keep 1000 to 2000 superworms at a time\ though I have not yet tried to propogate them. My husband refuses to let me try roaches as he doesn't like the thought of escapies, nor do I. My vivariums are too prone to providing avenues to do this. Please take the time to review the issues section. I would appreciate any helpful tips, shortcuts or alternatives, nutiritional stats on the differing species, disadvantages to keeping, that have been successful or detrimental for yourself. I am looking for information on species I haven't mentioned and their care requirements. ie. roach species care, springtails, fruit flies, etc.
Currently there are instructions for: SUPERWORMS, MEALWORMS, RED WIGGLERS, DEW WORMS, CRICKETS, ROACHES TO FEEDER DETAILS
I also gather bugs from our yard. Snails are a favourite of the water dragons and basilisks. Snails are easily found on a damp morning, after an evening storm and easier still if the grass was freshly mowed the day before. Under and around bushes, day lillies, hostas, hedges, around wood pieces. The shells provide calcium to your pet in a natural form.
I am really rather ridiculous....when I am gardening I will keep a margarine container with a few small holes next to me. I gather slugs, worms , snails and caterpillers as I am going. A small basket is handy as well for edible herbs, weeds and veggie tops and flowers.
